How to install xfy Basic Edition and xfy Blog Editor

For the environment where xfy Basic Edition 1.5 is already installed with Windows Installer, xfy Basic Edition 1.6 for Windows cannot be installed. Instead, please download xfy Basic Edition 1.6 Zip archive and install it.
-> Follow the instructions on "installation.html" included in the archive.
-> You need to install Java SE 6 by yourself.

xfy is a platform designed for turning native XML applications into reality. xfy enables you to dynamically collect XML data or easily create a single view from multiple XML data sources.

This feature of xfy utilizes "mashups," which is getting focus as a Web 2.0 or Enterprise 2.0 feature.

A mashup adds new value to information combined from multiple Web services. For example, by mashing up updated stock information, charts, reviews from analysts, and news that are required for day trading, you can visualize the correlation and cause and effects. Information that was once collected and viewed piece by piece in multiple windows can now be collected and viewed in a single document in real-time, opening up new possibilities. You can easily create this type of mashup by using xfy.

With a few simple steps, you can have a mashup of Yahoo! Maps in your blog. Spice up your blog with "map links", the king of mashups!

Yahoo! Weather for Blog Editor

You can embed the day's weather information in a blog entry. Although weather forcasts are typically embedded in blogs, the key feature of Yahoo weather for Blog Editor is its ability to keep a record (data) of that day's weather. This sample demonstrates the power of xfy's "information mashup" as opposed to a simple mashup of temporarily overlaid views.

This is the most basic RSS reader and a great sample for beginners.

PhotoViewer for Flickr RSS XVCD is a client used for the Flickr image sharing service.

Amazon Web Services XVCD

Enter keywords to search for product information using the Amazon Web Services.

Flickr YahooMaps XVCD

This is a sample mashup of "information overlapping with latitude and longitude" which is one of the most typical mashups. This searches for pictures from Flickr services, and then uses Yahoo! Maps Web services to display a map based on the geographic information for that picture.

eBay and Amazon Search XVCD

This is another typical mashup sample that is a "search aggregator for multiple shopping sites." Enter keywords to search product information simultaneously from eBay and Amazon Web services.

Travel Plan Search XVCD

This sample searches various travel plans by using multiple Web services such as maps, traffic information, and travel searches. This sample is also posted on Yahoo! GALLERY.

RDF Calendar XVCD

This is a mashup sample that combines calendar information based on XML data in RDFCalendar format. In addition to supporting Web services such as Google Calendar and Upcoming, RDF Calendar XVCD links to Google Maps. This sample is also posted on ProgrammableWeb, which introduces mashups from around the world.

Mashbar XVCD

This sample allows you to paste information from various Web services to a blog or an XHTML document. You can easily select and switch Web services.

Business Report XVCD

This sample creates weekly reports by mashing up sales reports created in various document formats. Business Report XVCD also summarizes the numbers in the sales reports and displays them in tables and graphs.

This vocabulary component is used to display various graphs such as bar graphs and line graphs. You can display data as graphs by mapping XML data to the Chart component by using XVCD.

With this component, you can use a GUI to add graphs based on the XML data in a document. You can use dialog boxes to perform mapping operations on the XML data and graph elements.

With this component, you can use a GUI to add scatter diagrams based on the XML data in a document. You can use dialog boxes to perform mapping operations on the XML data and graph elements.

A microformat is a standard for embedding a variety of information, such as the time, names, addresses, and phone numbers, into HTML or XHTML pages. If microformats are used, a variety of information can be extracted from HTML pages accurately for reuse.

xfy supports MathML, which is an XML representation of mathematical formulas. By using xfy, you can edit MathML without having to worry about XML tags. Utilizing xfy's characteristic as a compound document editing environment, MathML can be used in various documents. The component architecture of xfy allows other functions for displaying and processing to link with MathML.

For example, when writing a dissertation or a research paper, you used to have to write and then execute formulas, use a different system to create the visualization of the results, and then transfer those results to a document. However, xfy enables you to create formulas, execute them, and then visualize the results all within the same document, therefore, greatly enhancing the efficiency of document creation. The benefits of using xfy are not limited to document creation. Whenever the recipient of the document had to validate or reproduce the contents, the verification environment had to be reconstructed from scratch based on that document. However, documents created with xfy contain all the mathematical formulas, the execution process of the formulas, and the visualization process. Therefore, the recipient can easily validate and reproduce the document contents.

In this manner, xfy MathML support goes beyond simple MathML editing and changes the entire environment of information usage that encompasses mathematical formulas.
